4.6 The local group of Galaxies

ln this cube, we can see the 25 galaxies that are the closest to us.

The scale is indicated by the red segment: it represents the distance covered by the light in a million years at a speed of 300,000 kilometres per second.

Compared to the distances between them, the objects in this model have been magnified by approximately five times to make them more visible.

As a reminder, in the display related to neighbouring stars, the magnification was by one million. 

Using the same scale and making a very rough estimation, the borders of the Universe would be 4 kilometres away.
